My Triumphant Return to Pine Street

Last week, Jillian and I went to Philadelphia to look for an apartment. I forgot how cold it can get in the Northeast, but we both adapted pretty quickly. Anyway, after a crappy first day in which two people stood us up, we saw a lot of so-so places, and I questioned whether I had made the right decision; we found a cute two bedroom apartment on Pine Street. For those of you who don't know (or didn't live with me), 4011 Pine Street was my home for two years in college. This new apartment is across the Schuykill and won't be occupied by 7 twenty year old girls, but it should still be a good time.

In honor of my second home on Pine Street here is a list of things that happened at 4011 that will not happen in my new home:
- Furniture will not be stolen from the porch.
- Guys will not show up on the doorstep with chocolate cake and a handle of bourbon and state that all a girl needs is chocolate and bourbon. (Although I do not necessarily discourage this behavior)
- no one will be criticized for not knowing the Redemption song by heart.
- there will be no earnest, yet lame, playing of the guitar by people who only know how to play the Redemption song and Closer to Fine by the Indigo Girls.
- there will be no old school nintendo; only because I don't have one anymore.
- people such as Sideburns Boy, Medical Student #1, Medical Student #2, Medical Student #3, Sushi Mike, Dental Dan, Last Card, etc. will probably not stop by.

Ok, back to the present. I am sure I will have new memories on Pine Street. They will just involve the cute baby pictured above, rather than booze and COLLEGE! type behavior.

On another note, I would also like to point out that Jillian has been so good on the plane. When we deplane many people come up to us to say that they didn't even know there was a baby on board. I guess I am just noting her good behavior as a proud mom.

Oh and the movie "The Lake House" with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves sucks. But it probably brought in a significant amount of money because I think there are a good number of people out there that will go see a movie just because Sandra Bullock is in it. And a good number of people that will just go see sucky romances. If I was more technologically savy, I would draw a ven diagram to illustrate the set of people who are both Sandra Bullock fans and connoisseurs of sucky romances. I bet you there is a lot of overlap.

Post-bath cuteness

After these pictures were taken, Jillian slept through the night. It was awesome. Let's see if it sticks. I should say that immediately after these pictures were taken, I did actually put clothes on her, THEN she slept through the night. Don't want everyone to think I make my baby sleep in just a diaper in the winter.

We will be traveling again next week to look for an apartment in the city of brotherly love, so it may be awhile until I post again.

Ugh.

I feel like Jillian looks in this picture. Someone just hold me while I sleep and forget about the following:
- keeping the house clean in order to sell it.
- where to go while people come look at the house (usually Starbucks, gift cards from Christmas = free lattes)
- the SF housing market
- finding an apartment in Philly
- taking the Pennsylvania bar (yes, my third bar exam)
- getting Jillian to take a bottle
- getting Jillian to sleep at night
- other miscellaneous issues as mistakes were made.

At least my pants aren't as hiked up as Jillian's.....

I am not this big a whiner in real life, just in my blog life. I swear. Although others may disagree.

Food Poisoning Sucks

On Friday, I managed to get food poisoning. It was so awesome that I wound up in the hospital. After a few hours of I.V. fluids I was feeling much better. The worst part had to be not being able to take care of Jillian. I felt like the worst mom.

You know, loyal reader(s), I enjoy blogging. I usually come up with ideas on what to write about at 2 a.m. while feeding big J. Today, however, I cannot remember any of those ideas. My brain is totally fried. Too bad I don't have a cute bear hat to keep it warm.

Odd Topic

So, because I watch a lot of daytime television (although I have been very good about getting out of the house for part of the day), I see many commercials for which I am not the target audience. I see some that I am, although it took me a while to realize that now the makers of Luv's diapers are gunning for me. That whole "I am a mom" thing still feels foreign.

Anyway, I digress. One of the more popular items in daytime advertising are electric scooters for those with limited mobility. A few observations:

- Tom Kruse (pronounced Tom Cruise) invented the Hover-around chair. I crack up everytime I hear him say, "Hi I'm Tom Kruse, inventor of the Hover-around." L. Ron Hubbard may be against anti-depressants, but must be for electric scooters.
- You can also get your chair from the Scooter Store, but Tom Kruse is not involved. They don't use the inventor in their commercial, just a VP with a non-celebrity name.
- What happened to the Rascal? That is the chair I remember from daytime televisions days of old. The commercials involved young folks doing things like going to the mall or playing little league and wishing that their grandparents were there. Suddenly you would hear "beep beep" and the missing grandparents would roll up on their Rascal to everyone's delight.

And now for someone with limited mobility, but no electric scooter - here is a picture of Jillian on a baby surf board showing off what she can do.

I promise to lay off the day time television based posts from now on. Or at least promise to try.
